Bagan

Bagan is a quite amazing place. About 3000 pagodas
were built between the 1000s and 1200s. In 1057, King
Anawrahta conquered the Mon capital in Southern Burma,
where Buddhism was already practiced for 1000 years.
He brought back the Tripitaka Pali scriptures, Buddhist
monks and craftsmen. In 1287 the city was destroyed by
the Mongols under Kublai Khan.
